The folks over at TheNextWeb.com have put together this handy list they call The 12-Step Social Media Checklist. It's a very useful reference to check just before hitting that submit, share, or publish button to make sure your posts have the correct tone, target the correct audience, and are well equipped to gain the most traction on social media platforms.

As a general rule, your posts on blogs and social media platforms should reflect who you are, either as an individual or a business, and contain carefully edited, useful (but not verbose) information in a format that can be easily shared. Your posts should target a specific audience with a specific goal in mind (generate traffic to your website, increase brand awareness, etc.).

At Extra Nerds, we have helped companies to craft their image online, set up pages on Facebook and other social media platforms, and provide best practices for interfacing with social media platforms in order to preserve and improve their image and drive sales.

It all starts with a responsive, mobile-friendly, and keyword rich website. Such websites can be built on content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, which Extra Nerds can help you build. Other more hands-off approaches to deploying and hosting your website also exist. Once your website is built, you will have a logo and a color scheme, as well as a general image you want for your business. With this, you can begin to publish blog posts and social media updates, keeping in mind the image you wish to portray and the 12-steps mentioned above.

We realize maintaining your image online can be an overwhelming endeavor. That's why we're here to help. If your organization needs assistance setting up, maintaining, or promoting your online presence, please contact us to see what we can do to help.
